Glenwood ArtStream Project Journal Index First Tile Making Project

Nature Journaling & First Tile Making Project

This first project involved transferring drawings from student nature journals to a two-dimensional format: clay relief tiles. Here you see some examples of nature journals and finished tiles. This is a warmup exercise for the schoolyard mapping project. The final product will be group drawings and a map created with relief tiles, which will be permanently installed in the school foyer.

Artist in residence Pat Hight confers with an 8th grade art student on his nature journal.

About this project, Pat says, “The major learning point of nature journaling is to learn to draw and write from direct observation, and to show students that they can apply the information that they gather from working in their nature journals to subsequent projects.”
