Devonian PeriodThe Devonian time period lasted from 410 to 360 million
years ago, a time span of 50 million years. The term Devonian was first
used in the 1830s to describe a sequence of rocks in Devon, England. The
name Devonian was derived from the name of that part of England. These
Devonian rocks were defined based on a particular type of fossil assemblage
contained within them. They are located above the rocks of the Silurian
System and below the rocks of the Mississippian
System.
