Grand Gulf

This observation platform juts out over a deep round sinkhole with sheer rock walls over 100 feet tall. This is on the downstream side of the park.

The crew is using a videocamera mounted on a crane to get sweeping shots of the sinkhole and cave far below. From left, Denise Vaughn, Neil Rosenbaum, and Kevin Kaiser.

Shot of the cave mouth taken from inside the sinkhole. The photographer is standing not far from the bottom.

This view from the observation platform shows what the camera on the crane was recording. Recent rains made a pool in the bottom of the sinkhole. Rosenbaum and Kaiser are deep inside the sinkhole, shooting toward the cave. This gorge is quite a distance upstream from the big sinkhole and cave. Rosenbaum's camera (hidden by his body) is shooting in the direction of the platform at right. The view from this observation platform is of the upstream portion of Grand Gulf's mile-long chasm.
