Armistice Day In West Plains
By Brett
I was at West Plains Armistice Day Parade on April 21, 1919. I was a doughboy marching in the parade. Now let me tell you a little history. Some people and I were officers in WWI. We rode a train from West Plains to New York harbor. Then we took a steam ship to England. From England we went to France. I went to the Battle of Verdun with more than 80 men walking behind me. One tank carried Blaine and Layne. When we reached the battlefield it didn't look any different. We kept walking until we heard someone say, "FIRE!" Then we took cover from the shooting.
Other people came from America to help us. So we all had to jump in the trenches. Next the Germans threw mustard gas toward our trench. I said, "Evacuate the trench! Escape!" But some of our guys didn't make it out. Then I said, "FIRE AT WILL!"
After the war 34 people died from Howell County, but 50 people lived.
In the parade, we walked all over West Plains hearing people cheer. That is what it was like in 1917 and then later at the parade in West Plains.

World War I

I was a captain in World War I. I traveled from West Plains to New York City. From New York City I sailed to England. From England I went to France. My name is Captain Mark Springer. I fought at Verdun. Germany was our enemy. A big cannon shell exploded at my side. Mustard gas went everywhere. I breathed the mustard gas into my lungs. I couldn't breathe anymore. I didn't go home to be in the parade. That's what happened in World War I.

I am a veteran. I was in the parade after WWI. My captain's name was Mark Springer, but he died from mustard gas. World War I started when Gavrilo Princip shot Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie.
In the West Plains Armistice Day Parade I was driving the tank. After the West Plains parade, I went home and had supper. Then I went to bed. The next morning I ate breakfast and said the Pledge. That's what happened at the West Plains Armistice Day Parade.

I fought in the Civil War. I was the best swordsman in the whole war. I got my uniform and two swords. We marched to the Civil War. A bullet went flying at Layne, but I got in the way and chopped the bullet that was coming at him. The swords were covered in dragons. We won the war and marched back to West Plains. We had a feast.
Fifty-three years later, World War I ended and we had an Armistice Day Parade. The parade was led by a battle tank. Then came the doughboys. Next came the victory girls. Last came a couple of my friends and myself who survived the Civil War. That is how the parade ended.

When I Fought In World War I
By Dylan
I am a soldier in World War I. World War I started when a college student killed Archduke Franz Ferdinand. But America fought in World War I after a German U-boat shot the Lusitania with a torpedo. I fought at the Battle of Verdun. I was shot by a machine gun. Some of the new weapons used in World War I were airplanes, machine guns, battle tanks, and mustard gas. That is how I died in World War I.

When I fought In World War I
By Jeffrey
This is what I did in World War I. I went to New York and was loaded on a steamship going to France to fight at Verdun. The war started when the Germans sunk the Lusitania. I had to dig holes in the ground. I jumped in front of a speeding bullet for my buddy, Captain Mark Springer. Some of the machines used in World War I were machine guns, battle tanks, and mustard gas. That is what happened in World War I.

When I Fought In World War I

I fought in World War I. I'm Captain Mark Springer. When I went to World War I, my job was to be a machine gun soldier. I got gassed with mustard gas. I survived and stood in front of my brother, Dustin. They shot and hit me. I managed to get up and shoot back. Then they shot me with mustard gas again. I made it to the hospital. My brother Dustin stayed beside me the whole time. We started back home from Verdun. I was resting. I got up to see how much ocean we had crossed. I found out that we were half way home. Then I fell and got knocked out. I died. But that's how I saved my brother's life and my country.

I was at the West Plains Armistice Day Parade on April 21, 1919. World War I started when Archduke Franz Ferdinand was killed by a Serbian assassin. America went to war when a German U-boat sank the Lusitania. There were lots of people killed.
I was a victory girl. We were wearing red, white, and blue. The parade was led by a battle tank. Then came the doughboys. The doughboys were holding flags. There was a motorcycle behind the doughboys. There were horses and wagons. There were boy scouts. There was a dog chasing the battle tank. There was a car parked across the street. There were people standing by the car. That's what happened at the first West Plains Armistice Day Parade.

I am a victory girl. We were dressed in red, white, and blue. The parade was guided by a battle tank. There were doughboys. There were horses and wagons. there was a dog chasing the battle tank. I am a doughboy in World War I. I will tell you about the Parade that West Plains had when the war was over. It was really neat! People were looking at the battle tank, soldiers, and victory girls. There were even boy scouts. There was a wagon full of Spanish-American War and Civil War veterans. There were four American flags and one dog. There was an old car with victory girls riding inside. The parade lasted four hours. My great grandfather was in the Civil War. His name is Layne. My brother Brenton never made it back for the parade. That's what the first West Plains Armistice Day parade was like.

I am an American admiral in the Navy heading for Verdun during World War I. I am in enemy waters fighting for my life.
"FIRE ONE!"
We sank the first two destroyers, but a huge wolf pack of German U-boats was heading straight for us! We laid some mines in the water as fast as we could.
I said, "FIRE TWO!"
We shot out the second torpedo, but that didn't stop them!
"Perfect! They were above the mines!"
I pressed the button, and the mines blew up! Then the leading submarine was still coming. We both fired, and we were both hit! I was killed and never got to see my family again. That is what happened in World War I.

I am a victory girl. I was living in West Plains when the Germans sank the Lusitania. That's how we got into World War I. Then we sent our soldiers to fight.
The victory girls started putting on plays to help raise money to buy equipment for the soldiers. Then our boys came home and got big medals. We had a big parade. Then we gave great honor to the people who gave their lives to go to the war and die. Then at the parade we got to play games like "pin the tail on the donkey." We also ate cookies. That is what happened at the first West Plains Armistice Day Parade.

I was at the West Plains Armistice Day Parade on April 21, 1919. I was one of the victory girls. All of the victory girls helped raise money for the soldiers. To help raise the money we sang patriotic songs and also danced. Everyone came to watch us. We all dressed in red, white and blue. We collected a lot of money for the soldiers. After that we played really fun games. Then we picked some of the people in the audience, and we put them on stage. We let them sing patriotic songs out loud if they wanted to. If not, then we picked someone else. We collected enough money to buy battle tanks, bombs, and uniforms four our troops. We already had a tank to lead us, but we needed a new one. We had the parade because World War I had ended. We all wished next time to never, ever have another war again because it was so terrifying! But we still wanted to win every war there was.

World War I
By Brayten
I fought in World War I. I am Captain Brayten. It all began when the Lusitania was shot with a German torpedo. But the thing that really started World War I was when two college students planned to hurt a man from Austria-Hungary. One of the college kids threw a bomb. The next kid jumped on the car and pulled a pistol out of his pocket. He shot Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie. America had to go to war in 1917. The Howell County boys went to New York to sail to London. Next we traveled to France. We went to set up camp before we fought in World War I. I had a machine gun. I saw a bullet heading for Brett! I jumped in front of Brett to take the bullet to save him. It hit me in the stomach.

I was at the West Plains Armistice Day Parade on April 21, 1919. My grandson and I were in the war. Riding in the wagon reminded me of riding in the medical carriage with all the injured officers. In almost a half an hour they all died.
My son was a veteran. I was in the parade because I fought in the Civil War. I also survived the sinking of the Lusitania. So they put me at the front of the carriage. My favorite part was when they burned an effigy of Kaiser Wilhelm. But it was just a big, stuffed scarecrow. It was my favorite part because the Germans had killed half my family. The weird thing was, I only went for one year because I was scared, but my grandson went for two years. My only friend, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, was killed by Gavrilo Princip.
The West Plains Armistice Day Parade was fun. Everything was fun, the tanks, the victory girls, the doughboys, and a lot more. That is what the Armistice Day Parade was like.

I was at the West Plains Armistice Day Parade on April 21, 1919. World War I began after a U-boat sank the Lusitania. World War I was a bad war because many people were killed, but some also came home alive. Six million soldiers fought in World War I.
I was a victory girl. There were soldiers and other victory girls in the parade. The tank led the parade. The West Plains Armistice Day Parade was very exciting! As a victory girl in the parade, I sang and cheered. That is what happened at the West Plains Armistice Day Parade.

When I Was In World War I
By Dalton
My name is Captain Mark Springer. I served in Company D of the Missouri National Guard. I was in World War I. The Germans shot a torpedo at the Lusitania. There were 1, 198 passengers drowned along with 128 Americans. Germany shot the torpedo from U-boat, number 20. People wanted to go to war with Germany, but President Woodrow Wilson didn't want to go to war. Before the Lusitania was sunk, Archduke Franz Ferdinand was in a parade and some Serbian college kids tossed a bomb into the road. The Archduke told his driver to leave town, but they accidentally took the wrong turn. Gavrilo Princip was a Serbian assassin. He jumped on the car and shot the Archduke with a pistol. That's how World War I started.
I was sent to New York before they shipped us out to England. From England I went to France and fought in the Battle of Verdun. I lost my life in World War I and never got to see my family again.

I am an old man in the West Plains Armistice Day Parade. I went to the Civil War with my best friend Blaine. The two guns I had were a rifle and a Gatling gun. My grandsons were in World War I. Their names were Dustin and Brenton. Brenton saved Dustin and died. World War I started when Gavrilo Princip killed Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
In the West Plains Armistice Day Parade, one of the battle tanks led. A dog was running around. Boy scouts and girl scouts were marching behind the parade. That's what I did in the parade.

Armistice Day In West Plains
By Corbin
I was in the West Plains Armistice Day Parade on April 21, 1919. My name is Corbin, and I fought in World War I. Now, I am going to tell you about the war. World War I started when Gavrilo Princip shot Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie. But America went to war after U-boat, number 20, destroyed the Lusitania on May 7, 1915.
When we got to the battlefield, the Captain said, "Corbin, you are in charge of shooting."
I said, "OK."
My buddies saw the enemy. When it was time, I said, "Bring out the tank and the cannons!" Then I said, "Fire the tank and the cannons!" We shot at the enemy's tank and cannons. The war had started!
Each army had rifles. I took my rifle out. But before I could shoot, I saw an enemy about to shoot my buddy. I ran and jumped to knock him down. But when I pushed him out of the way, I got shot in the arm. I told my friend to get help. When the enemy shot mustard gas we held our breath and found a shelter with no windows. Just a door and air tanks. When the enemy ran out of mustard gas, we shot mustard gas back at them. The enemy didn't have any shelter or air tanks. So we won the war.
When we got to the parade, the tank led the army. I saw my mom and dad watching me march through town with my buddies. The army was going to be rewarded $100,000,000. There was a band behind us. Behind the band came Mr. Woolsey's third-grade class! After Mr. Woolsey's class marched the boy scouts throwing candy and singing patriotic songs. That's what happened at the Armistice Day Parade in West Plains.

I was at the West Plains Armistice Day Parade on April 21, 1919. I was in the wagon with the Civil War veterans. I shot cannons in the Civil War and fought a lot of Yankees. I was shot with a musket, but I lived. That is why I was in the Veterans' Day Parade.
At the parade I saw U.S. Marines, victory girls, battle tanks, horses, and wagons. At the parade I saw my flag and some old Yankees. That's what happened at the West Plains Armistice Day Parade.
